GET ACTIVE
Without the motivation of seeing your C24 family at the gym or attending your favorite group exercise class, finding the motivation to get active can seem like a struggle. It may not be the same experience but “social distance fitness” can still give you great results and is important for your overall
health—mentally and physically. In addition to keeping your body healthy and strengthening the vital organs in your body, exercise is a natural mood lifter that is important when you’re confined to your home.
It just takes a little bit of creativity to recreate your favorite workouts at your house. Our daily AT HOME workouts (WOD) on our website can help you get your workout in. If you’re someone who likes working out with a friend, try video chatting and doing the workouts together! Sometimes it is nice to have a change of environment to help you feel motivated. Try working out in your backyard instead of in your living room to
get some fresh air. As long as you adhere to the 6-foot rule and keep your
distance from others, you can also hit the pavement for a nice run through
your neighborhood to get your heart rate up and burn some calories!
EAT WELL
Eating junk food is tempting when you are at home. However, try to fight the urge! Sticking to your healthy eating habits is important for boosting your immune system. If you have never meal prepped before, now is the perfect time to get in the kitchen and start! Most people are trying to limit their trips to the grocery store right now to minimize contact with others, so buying in bulk and cooking ahead is a great way to go.
Prepping healthy breakfast, lunch and dinners for the week gives you
something healthy to grab for when you can’t find the motivation to cook.
Incorporate things like lean meats (turkey, skinless chicken breast, fish), hearty veggies (kale, spinach, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower), and healthy carbs (sweet potatoes, quinoa, brown rice). Add in spices like turmeric, ginger, garlic, and pepper to add even more immune
boosting benefits. Stock up on healthy snacks other than cookies or chips so that you have something healthy to reach for when hunger strikes. Fruit (berries and citrus), nuts, seeds, and even dark chocolate are all great snacks!
BE STILL
Social distancing can be stressful. In between working out and eating healthy, be sure to relax and do things that are good for easing anxiety and helping the time pass. Don’t just spend your days in front of screens. Take some time to disconnect from the world and clear your thoughts.
It is important to try and stick to a routine. Staying up all night binging on TV shows & movies may sound appealing, but studies show that getting
enough sleep is incredibly important to your mental and physical health. Try getting up and going to bed at the same time each day to avoid derailing your sleep schedule. Meditating twice a day has been proven to reduce anxiety and stress. If you haven’t already, now is the time to download a
guided meditation app to help you clear your mind. Breathing exercises are
also a great way to center yourself. Over the course of 2-3 minutes, take 10
deep breaths in and out and on your focus on your breathing.
Mental and physical health go hand-in-hand. Nurturing both of these elements over the next few weeks will help you feel the best, long after this isolation ends. We can’t wait to see you all in person in the gym!
